If you are like me and have two or more monitors, then you have probably experienced this: When watching a fullscreen flash video on one screen you go to work on the other screen and flash immediately exits fullscreen mode.
After much searching I found this:
After watching this video I have created a tool which makes hacking and unhacking a flash install incredibly easy. It should work on most versions of flash, however I can offer no guarantees that it will work on versions that I have not tested on. (Note, after hacking flash the esc key is to be used to exit fullscreen mode for flash videos)
One note: had to run the exe as administrator on Win7x64. Worked like a charm after that.
A nice feature for single screen users would be to allow pinning the flash video window so that things can be opened in front of it. Don't know how possible that is though ;)

If we're talking about the same kind of pinning here, you can download Deskpins for windows or Afloat for mac OS. You can pin windows such that they always stay on top of others -- I use it to pin flash windows (like MLB.tv) above my other windows, but you could probably pin things on top of the flash window as well!
Just curious... it doesn't allow you to edit the file at all? Have you tried to rename it or go into safe mode? Or even try using with another OS such as Linux? It'd be great to have support for IE because many 3rd party apps use IE as the engine to display the videos.
Flash 10.1 continues to elude me. I have hacked it to the point where fullscreen never exits, but have not figured out how to only prevent it from exiting when focus is lost.
As far as I can tell no one else has figured it out yet either.
Win 7 x64 is the system I run, so rest assured if I figure out 10.1 it will work with it.
Hi Jmaxxz. I am working on some program using Autoit. I can unset the ontop flag of the Adobe Flash player window in full screen so the other ontop window will be visible, but when I click that window, flash looses the focus and exits from full screen. I am interested in this "I have hacked it to the point where fullscreen never exits"
You can solve your problem by setting the hotkey in the autoit to close the flash window.
I have hacked flash 10.1 so it never exits fullscreen mode, however there is no way to close it and get the video to return to the small player. If you close the window you will have to refresh the page to get the small window back.
This being said I have been considering making an application which would run in the background and let other windows appear in front of a fullscreen flash video. Would you be interested in such a program?
This program will automatically do that. However it is only useful if FlashHacker or a similar technique works to prevent fullscreen from auto exiting.
It is not working well enough that I feel comfortable giving it out. My current 10.1 hack essentially locks flash into fullscreen mode from which it is very hard to exit.
Oh I hope you can upgrade it. I didnt even think when I let it auto upgrade. Is there a way to downgrade your flash? Or is there an ETA on when you could give us an update! This program rocks!
If an update was pushed to you then you probably do not have the RC. Simply download the latest flashhacker and run. This will cause it to your new version.
If indeed you are on the RC for flash 10.1 then uninstall it using add and remove programs and install the latest stable version of flash (10.0.45.2) from: www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_firefox/7025/
An update for 10.1 will hopefully be available shortly after the final version of 10.1 is released.
Thanks for this. Please keep up to date with Adobe updates that may kill this feature. Occasionally freezes in Chrome on a quad core 8 gig of ram Windows 7 rig.
Hi, your newest version of FlashHacker for newest flash is bugged. It works when you Hack Flash, but after you do Unhack Flash it stops working and always says Flashack Failed or Unhackflash Failed. Only way to fix it is by reinstalling flash on firefox but that will still make it only work one time and when you try Unhack Flash it will bug out again.
Well basically imo you could either just fix the Unhack Flash option. Or remove it in general and tell users to backup their original flash file than use your FlashHacker software to "hack" it, and than if they want to rollback they can just replace the "hacked" file with original. Because using your Unhack Flash just bugs out the Firefox Flash overall, the Hack Flash option works fine though, I just use it and than close the software. Thanks for taking your time to read this :)
Yes, I was aware of this mistake on my part. I have not rushed out a fix yet because I was unaware anyone actually used the Unhack button. But rest assured a new version will be out today which fixes it.
Thanks. =P Is very nice program for those who dont wanna use hex editor. Thanks for taking your time to fix the issue and the time you spent to code it.
Awesome that there's a new version of FlashHacker which supports 10.1, kudos to you and to Andrew for that. However, the latest version of FlashHacker at the time of writing doesn't support Google Chrome's copy of Flash which is kept in a different directory to normal Flash. Will this be addressed?
I have stated on a new program called Drizzly which is designed to support multiple browsers. Chrome support will be added to Drizzly. (FlashHacker was designed around browsers using the standard Flash(Non-IE) plugin, and does not scale well outside of that world)
I can spin a chrome only version if you would like something ASAP.
I found problem, it didn't auto add itself to firewall. One time after a computer reset browser just asked me if i wanted to allow it through firewall. now it's working.
hmmm FlashHacker does not use the network at also it does not need anything with the firewall. But Glad it is working for you. Probably had a browser that failed to close and was still running in the background the first time you ran it.
FlashHacker was built to handle browsers using the netscape based flash plugin. Google broke compatibility when they bundled their own version of flash.
A brand new version of FlashHacker (built from scratch) is underway. This new version will allow FlashHacker to better adapt and evolve. Stay tuned!
No new features will be added until the new version is finished. (Will update if new flash is released before I can finish though.)
I manually hacked it to search for the specific path and after finding and patching it works like a charm. What's so different about the google chrome flash version?
FlashHacker is superb thanks so much for this, alas, every time adobe update flash they break it, and it's broken again. Just to let you know. Although you may already know. Does anyone have a work around? I miss FlashHacker so much already. Damn, adobe are a pain in the backside. Do they update just to break full screen functionality? Probably. Sons of ..
Troubleshooting tip: If you are following the directions, and keep having it fail, try clicking "unhack my flash first." Let it do its thing, and then click "hack my flash."
I had flashhacker installed and working fine before the Flash update came out. I updated flash, got the updated flashhacker and no dice. Then i tried "unhack" before "hack" and it worked fine.
I would strongly recommend against doing this. Clicking unhack first can result in your flash becoming unstable as it modifies it in an unpredictable way.
I had the same issue with Google Chrome on Windows 7.the new edition of Google Chrome web browser uses the file gcswf32.dll, not NPSWF32.dll To access this file on Windows 7 you go to the folder C:\USERS\{{USER NAME}\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\5.0.375.99
Download the modified NPSWF32 file from http://www.kaisersblog.com/2010/03/lock-full-screen-video-with-dual-monitors/ Rename this file to gcswf32.dll and copy it to the folder with gcswf32.dll as I described above.overwrite file.you may want to backup the file before hand

Yes, FlashHacker must be run as admin on all versions of Windows.
I still have not found a way to get 10.1 working.
Looks like it's been replaced with flash10e.ocx, an activex control. aargh. i had gotten so used to the behavior, it's frustrating to be without.
Thanks for the tip. FlashHacker works with 10.0.45.2 if you use Firefox or chrome. I will try to roll out a new version that works with IE.
well i'm a dolt. i was in the middle of reinstalling firefox and hadn't installed flash for FF yet. heh heh. let IE users suffer without ;)
IE users maybe left with out a fix for sometime more as I can not seem to find a way to edit flash10e.ocx (or to even clear the readonly flag).
It'd be great to have support for IE because many 3rd party apps use IE as the engine to display the videos.

I've saved you some work and cracked 10.1. Check out my patch here: http://bramp.net/blog/full-screen-hack-for-flash
Feel free to update your app to include my changes, as long as you credit me in either the readme or the intro screen, or both.
Enjoy.
Occasionally freezes in Chrome on a quad core 8 gig of ram Windows 7 rig.
The freezing you are experiencing is likely flash messing up. Flashhacker is unlikely to be the cause.
Thanks for reporting this

Thanks so much for having made this.
Flash 10,1,53,64 installed
Windows 7 32 bit
Firefox 3.6.6
Also followed bramps directions and hex hacked it. Also no effect.
A brand new version of FlashHacker (built from scratch) is underway. This new version will allow FlashHacker to better adapt and evolve. Stay tuned!
No new features will be added until the new version is finished. (Will update if new flash is released before I can finish though.)
Did you try reinstalling flash?
?????????
FlashHacker ALWAYS runs as admin! How were you ever running it as not admin?
os = win 7 64 bit
browsers = ie , opera , firefox
redownloaded flash and install
rebooot
run flashhack
fail
You can always do the hack manually with a hex editor.
If you are following the directions, and keep having it fail, try clicking "unhack my flash first." Let it do its thing, and then click "hack my flash."
I had flashhacker installed and working fine before the Flash update came out. I updated flash, got the updated flashhacker and no dice. Then i tried "unhack" before "hack" and it worked fine.
